Would you like to be our next Honorary Secretary or Honorary Treasurer?

September 26, 2019Uncategorized
Following another successful and engaging Annual Scientific Meeting, the Society for Social Medicine and Population Health are now looking for two members to join the main committee as our next Honorary Secretary Elect (from 2020) and Honorary Treasurer Elect (from 2020).

Both roles are highly rewarding and provide opportunities for personal and professional development as you shape the Societies activities and engage with the membership. For whatever role you choose, you will begin by shadowing and supporting the current Honorary Secretary (Sarah Gibney) and current Honorary Treasurer (Anna Pearce), getting to know the business of the Society, before you step into the full role.

More about the Honorary Secretary Role
The role involves overseeing communications with the membership, and supporting and facilitating the running of the main committee (with help from our administrative partners at Hg3). The term limit for this role is 4 years.

More about the Honorary Treasurer Role
The role involves overseeing the financial affairs of the Society, including identifying and / or approving strategic investment in bursaries and other funding opportunities, approving new membership applications, and liaising with the membership secretary and our administrative partners and accountants at Hg3. The term limit for this role is 5 years.

Informal inquiries are encouraged. Please get in touch by emailing secretary.ssm@gmail.com (Honorary Secretary role) or Anna Pearce anna.pearce@glasgow.ac.uk (Honorary Treasurer role).

How can I apply?
Applicants must have been a member of the Society for at least three consecutive years.
To apply, please email the following information to secretary.ssm@gmail.com before 5pm Thursday 10th October 2019.

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your primary place of work (organisation and town/city)
  • The names of the two existing members of the SSM&PH who are willing to support your candidature
  • A candidate statement (max. 75 words) describing what you would bring to the Society as Honorary Secretary or Honorary Treasurer.

If more than one member volunteers for the role, we will hold an election among members and your name and candidate statement will appear on the ballot.
