SSM 62ND ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING GLASGOW

SSM 62ND ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING GLASGOW
January 30, 2019Uncategorized

The Society for Social Medicine Annual Scientific Meeting 2018 will be organised by colleagues from the University of Glasgow and will be held at the Technology and Innovation Centre, George Street.

Chair of the Local Organising Committee, Dr Ruth Dundas said “I am pleased that SSM (the UK’s leading population health conference) is returning to Glasgow in 2018. It really is a great conference for people interested in population health and I hope many of you will consider attending. The abstract deadline is 1st March 2018, so start planning your submission now.”

What is the SSM 62nd Annual Scientific Meeting?

A three-day academic and professional conference with a mix of high quality, peer-reviewed oral presentations, posters and workshops and ample opportunity for networking. Two keynote lectures will be delivered by Professor Kate Hunt (the Cochrane Lecture) and Professor Mel Bartley (the Pemberton Lecture).

Who attends?
Why should I attend?
Social medicine is the study of health in its widest sense. It covers a range of subjects including epidemiology, the medical and health needs of society, health services, and the prevention of disease. This conference spans all research that addresses important issues in population health sciences and includes qualitative, quantitative and mixed methods approaches. Everyone interested in population health sciences can come together to share information and network in a rigorous yet friendly atmosphere.

Last year the conference attracted over 250 participants from all over the world, ranging from senior academics to postgraduate students, with strong representation from the wider public health community. Disciplines ranged from epidemiology, health service research, psychology, public health and social sciences. 26 free places were awarded to attendees on student stipends or low incomes, and almost 100 people attended pre-conference workshops on career development and mentorship.

Important Dates:

Abstract submission deadline: 1st March 2018
