European Public Health Week 17-21 May

We are pleased to announce that on Friday, 17 May at 11.00 BST/12.00 CET, we will share a link to a plenary session on COVID-19 and inequalities. This was a plenary session at the 2020 conference of the UK Society for Social Medicine and Population Health, which featured five excellent speakers considering different aspects of the subject (details below).

We are releasing this video to coincide with the “Leaving no one behind” day of European Public Health Week 2021. The speakers and their topics are as follows:

• Prof Sir Michael Marmot (Institute of Health Equity): Global Health and the Pandemic
• Dr Michelle Kelly-Irving (University of Toulouse): Health inequalities in a time of pandemic … plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose
• Prof Dame Margaret Whitehead (University of Liverpool): The aftermath of Covid-19: impact on inequalities in child health and development
• Prof S Vittal Katikireddi (University of Glasgow): Ethnic inequalities in COVID-19
• Dr Gerry McCartney (Public Health Scotland): The health and health inequality aspects of lockdown: trading off benefits and risks & Panel discussion

As a society, we are very proud of the excellent speakers that we can attract to our conferences and the quality of the science presented. That is as true as ever for our 2021 conference being hosted (virtually) by the University of Liverpool from 15-17 September.
