In the Winter Newsletter, we look back at the Society’s 2019 Annual Scientific Meeting, which was jointly held with the International Epidemiological Association (IEA) European Congress of Epidemiology. The newsletter includes a summary of the responses from delegates and excerpts from the reports provided by ECRs who received a free place. The society’s next annual scientific meeting will take place from 9th-11th September 2020.
In the ECR Corner, we have a summary of the pre-conference ECR Workshop and an interview with local officers Dr Kate O’Neill and Ms Niamh McGrath on how they secured additional funding from the Health Research Board (HRB) 2019 conference and event sponsorship scheme for the workshop. The MCR Corner invites new members to join the committee ahead of plans to trial new activities and events for 2020 and Sarah Gibney our Honorary Secretary highlights the development of the Senior Career Researcher subcommittee in the Committee News.
The newsletter features the final president’s letter from Hazel Inskip before welcoming now Kate Hunt in January 2020. We also say goodbye to departing ECR Subcommittee chair Kathryn Skivington and members Janice Atkins, Georgia Chatzi, Naoimh McMahon, and Tarra Penney who have provided reflections on their time on the subcommittee. Kate O’Neill will be our next ECR Subcommittee chair for 2020. Emily Petherick and Shelina Visram will take over as MCR Section co-Chairs from Ruth Dundas.
