The SSM is seeking nominations for a number of roles on the SSM Committee. Please do consider contributing to the future direction of the Society by joining the Committee and having your say. We very much hope that people from across the breadth of interests within the Society will stand for different roles to ensure that the Committee develops the Society in ways that reflect all of our interests.
President 2016-2017 (President Elect 2015)
For the first time in its history, SSM is holding elections for the office of President! Please consider standing; the Society needs strong leadership to continue driving forward its development and growth over the next few years.
The term for President for the Society is two years, but additionally the successful candidate will join the committee in the preceding year as President Elect and stay on the committee in the subsequent year as Past President. This process ensures continued progress in the ongoing development of the Society and is a crucial part of our succession management. Simon Capewell is President for 2014 and 2015; Martin White is currently Past President and will leave the committee at the end of 2014.
Honorary Treasurer 2016-2020 (Treasurer Elect 2015)
The Honorary Treasurer holds office for five years; Mark Gilthorpe has done an excellent job at improving the Society’s finances and bringing our processes into the 21st Century. His last year in office will be 2015. We would therefore like to invite nominations for role of Honorary Treasurer for 2106 onwards, with the successful candidate joining the Committee in 2015 so that there can be an effective handover.
Ordinary Committee Members 2015-2017
The term of office for ordinary members is three years. At the end of 2014, Noriko Cable and Karen Rees will therefore step down and we are seeking nominations for two new members to join the committee in their place.
All committee members have specific roles and at the end of 2014 three will become vacant: external relations, mentoring scheme and one-day meeting co-ordinators. We would particular like nominations for people interested in these roles, although we review roles annually and therefore a wide range of other opportunities to contribute to the development of the Society are possible.
If you would like to find out more about the roles please get in touch with me or one of the other committee members, and we’d be happy to talk to you.
Please return to me email@example.com and clearly indicate on the form and in the subject line of the email which post you wish to be considered for.
Deadline for receipt of nominations: 23.59 Wednesday 30th July 2014.
Once the nominations have been received, an on-line ballot for the different posts will be conducted and the results announced at the AGM in Oxford in September. Looking forward to you joining us!
With best wishes, Michaela
Society for Social Medicine Honorary Secretary
